abstract = "Brazil plays a central role in food production with a huge soybean
production and the second largest herd of commercial cattle in the
world. The institutionalization of Matopiba (Brazilian Decree no.
844) confirmed the commitment of the federal government to promote
agricultural expansion in the region. This expansion, motivated
mainly by economic factors, can cause serious environmental and
social impacts, which could be mitigated through openly available
data and information in support of decision-making and public
policies. Within this context and in pursuit of responding to
these expectations, the Pastagem.org was created in 2014. Since
then, this portal has been continuously improved and updated,
including new datasets and functionalities, enabling the retrieval
of a wide variety of geographic data and online spatial analysis.
Its database, with respect to the Matopiba region, comprises 488
layers of geographic data, including, among others, grazing areas,
croplands, planted forests, native vegetation. In particular, we
emphasise the spatial intelligence and time series tools, which
allow the user to perform online analysis and retrieve information
such as the areas of agriculture, accumulated Deforestation since
2008, and occurrence of conflicts related to land ownership and
slave labor. This platform has the potential to support the
decision-making process regarding different stakeholders, taking
into environmental, economic and social impacts, aiming at
balancing food production, preservation of natural ecosystems and
social issues in the last agricultural frontier in Brazil.",
